Paper Plane Forces

After we made our paper plane in Science we tested them but mine didn’t fly very far because it went nose-first into the ground. This happened because gravity pulled it down, and there wasn’t enough lift the force that pushes it up. It might not have had enough push forward, or there was too much air pushing against it called drag. To stay in the air longer, a plane needs more lift and less drag to fight gravity.

Zombie Punnetts

Last Friday in Science, we had to create a hypothetical zombie. We had to use our knowledge of punnet squares and genetics to complete the task. This is a blog on the task we did.

Aim: Creating A Hypothetical Zombie

Method:

Hair: Green or Brown, Chosen: Green

Limbs: 4 or 1, Chosen: 4

Clothes: Shorts & Shirt or Jacket, Chosen: Shorts & Shirt

Teeth: 3 or 2, Chosen: 3

Weapon: Chopstick or Fist, Chosen: Chopstick

DNA Extraction – Science

Hello Viewers.

For Science we have been learning about DNA’s and how everyone has different kinds of DNA. For today, our task was to do a DNA extraction on a banana. The aim for this experiment is to know the different kinds of DNA’s and how it is important for us to know that they are very special to us. For this task we need to have the followings.

Equipment:

1) Zip Lock Bag

2) Banana

3) Teaspoon of Water

4) Teaspoon of Salt

5) Cloth

6) Beaker

7) Test Tube

8) Warm Water

9) Ethanol

10) Safety Glasses

 Method:

1) The first step into making this a DNA extraction is to use the zip lock bag and put in the bananas there with no skin on them. Once your done with that, the next step is to add a teaspoon of water and a teaspoon of salt. Right after that, start mushing the bananas. For my team we decided to mush the banana with our hands.

2) Once your done mushing the banana, The next step is to strain the mushed banana through the cloth into the beaker. (Hint: This can take a while so make sure you wait.) Once you have done it correctly, the beaker inside should have this white thing inside it which is the DNA.

3) Then after that add a squirt of dish-washing liquid and stir it. Once you are done with that the next thing you will need to do is pour the beaker which has the banana, salt and water inside a test tube.

4) After that get another beaker and place warm water inside the other beaker. Once you are done with that you can put the testing tube onto the beaker which has the warm water. Leave that out for 10 minutes.

5) Now the last step is to take it out of the warm water and apply 5mL of ethanol inside the tube, And finally you are done!

The aim: To understand the DNA’s inside living things.

For my team, my friend had helped me take the photos for our team. Here are the photos that me and my team had to do for this experiment. It was a great time doing this experiment and had learnt alot of things about DNA’s
